LYNCHBURG - Basil Allen Carter, 90, husband of Alma Wilson Carter, entered his eternal rest on Sunday, May 14, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 30, 1932, he was a son of the late LeRoy “Jack” Carter and the late Margaret Ann Durant Carter, Burdette Baxley. He was a member of Faith Bible Church. Basil love to tinker with electronics and to fish. He is survived by his wife of 17 years; three children, Tommy (Stephanie) Carter, Jackie ( Cecil) Tyler and Allen (Yessy) Carter all of Hemingway; five step children, Butch (Kathy) Wilson of Pinewood, Susan (David) Robertson of Kenton, OH, Cheryl (David) Plowden of Manning, James (Connie) Wilson of Sumter, David (Michelle) Wilson of Lynchburg; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Justin) Eaddy and Christopher “Cody” (Cristen) Tyler; four great grandchildren; fifteen step grandchildren; 30 step great grandchildren; one step great-great grandchild; two brothers, Charlie (Ann) Carter of Hemmingway and Jimmy (Becky) Carter of Charleston. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Nelda Carter; five brothers, Don Carter, Rene Burdette, Wayne “Pappy” Burdette, Thomas “Fuzzy” Baxley and Keith Carter; and one step sister, Harriett Jacobs. A graveside funeral service will be held 3pm on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, in the Garden of Devotion Cemetery in Hemmingway with Pastor F.L. Huth, Jr. and Rev. David Robertson officiating. The family will receive guest following the service at the cemetery. The family request that memorials be made to the Faith Bible Church Missionary Fund, 1640 Trinity Road, Lynchburg, SC 29080.
