Turbeville, South Carolina It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Jean Mitchum Brown, who departed this life peacefully on December 15, 2024, at her residence in Turbeville, SC. Born on October 11, 1940, in Berkley County, she was a daughter of the late Willie Bill Mitchum and the late Alethea Phillips Mitchum. Betty's journey was one filled with love, dedication, and community service. A devoted homemaker and cherished member of Great Commission Ministries, Betty's life was a testament to her unwavering faith and commitment to serving others. As a member of the Turbeville-New Zion Senior Citizens, she spent countless hours engaged in community activities, bringing joy and wisdom to those around her. Betty leaves behind a legacy of love and family. She is survived by her loving daughter, Althea B. Mixon (husband Mike) of Lynchburg; her two devoted sons, Timothy Brown (wife Ninetta) of Utah and Will Brown (wife Sharon) of Scranton; and her cherished grandchildren, including one granddaughter, Haven B. Sheffield (husband Matthew) of Hartsville, and two grandsons, Ashton Mixon of Murrells Inlet and Cody Brown of Utah. Betty also leaves two precious great-grandchildren, Celeste Brown and Ruby Brown of Utah. She will be sorely missed by her surviving sisters, Willie K. Thomas of Texas and Donna Thomas of Moncks Corner, who will forever cherish her memory. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl Brown; her brother, Butch Mitchum; and her sisters, Charlene Brinson and Elaine Thomas. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Betty's remarkable life on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. Visitation will begin at 2 pm, followed by the funeral service at 3 pm at Great Commission Ministries, with burial at Pine Dale Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to visit, at other times, at the home of Mike and Althea Mixon 2220 Atkins Road, Lynchburg, SC 29080. Pallbearers will be Scott Green, Jeb Green, Isaac Fort, Ashton Mixon, Matthew Sheffield, and Ellis Evans. Memorials may be made to Great Commission Ministries at 3503 West Turbeville Highway, Lake City, SC 29560 Arrangements are entrusted to Floyd Funeral Home, Inc., 136 E. Main Street, Olanta, who has supported the family during this difficult time. Betty's life was a blessing, her memory a treasure. She was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure. May she rest in heavenly peace.
