Charles “Charlie” Bryan Huggins Jr. , 69, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024 at his home. He was born March 30, 1955, son of Dorothy Ramsey Huggins and the late Charles Bryan Huggins, Sr. Charlie was born in Conway S.C. and graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from the University of South Carolina. He began his career with Newport News shipbuilding in Virginia and retired from Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in Arlington, Virginia. Charlie lived his life with a rebellious spirit, a stubbornness like a mule, and a zest for life that had no boundaries. One of his many skills was knowing when to make the most inappropriate joke during the most inopportune time. He was grateful for the love of his life, Mary, his spoiled furballs (Dottie),( Esther),( Hendley) and angel (Abi); his grandchildren and his girls…in that order. He laughed out loud and lived even louder. He never met a stranger no matter where he was and never met a Heath bar he didn’t devour. He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him and loving him. Surviving are his wife, Mary Morris Huggins of 17 years of New Zion; and children, Sarah (Lee) Kershner of Olanta, Tyler Harnish of Scranton, Alison (Alex) Bruton of Olanta and Andy (Cristina) Jordan of Texas; seven grandchildren, Mac Kershner, Hayden Harnish, Hampton Harnish, Morrison Bruton, Carraway Bruton, Jaqueline Jordan, and Lois Jordan; his mother, Dorothy Huggins of Myrtle Beach; one sister, Patricia (Joey) Taylor of Myrtle Beach; one niece, Madison Taylor of Colorado; one nephew, Bryan (Laura) Taylor of Charleston. Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Charles Byran Huggins, Sr.; one nephew, Bradley Taylor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the SC Cancer Alliance, 1800 St. Julian Place, Suite 301, Columbia, SC 29204 or https://www.sccancer.org/donate. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, April 20 at 2pm with a celebration of life immediately following at 3pm at Floyd Funeral Home in Olanta.
