Charles Douglas Welch passed away after a long illness at Legacy Ridge Memory Care Facility in Gainesville, Virginia on August 5, 2024 at the age of 81. Charles was predeceased by his father Henry Cohen Welch; his mother Pauline Parker Welch; by two brothers, Aaron Parker Pinckney Welch and Henry Cohen Welch and two sisters, Jemima S Welch and Susan Welch Dorn. He is survived by a former wife Christine “Chris” Christakos, three children; Tina Ann Boyle (Dave); Deadria Welch Van Metre (Beau); Charles Douglas Welch Jr. and two sisters Sandra Welch Elvington (Donald); Jeanne Welch Williams; and his grandchildren, (Tina) Richard Swink, Jeremy Swink, Christen Levesque, Tyler Boyle, Hannah Rose Fic; (Deadria) Charis Van Metre Burett, Jeannie Van Metre, Chris Van Metre, Ashley Van Metre, Alison Van Metre; (Charlie) Sydney Barnes, Tyler Welch and 16 great grandchildren. At the time of his death, Charles wasn’t married. He was born on August 18, 1942 in Jackson County, Florida. He was raised in Olanta, SC and the family later moved to Columbia, SC. Charles entered the Navy at the early age of 17 and served in various positions during his tenure, including Recruiting Officer, a 2 year stint in Iceland, and ended his career with several years in the Pentagon. serving under Captain George H Seymoure in the Defense Department. He retired after 20 years of service. He retired to Timmonsville, SC to be near his family and friends. He was moved to Virginia after several years of illness. The Celebration of Life Service will be held 11am on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at the Olanta Baptist Church, 207 Magnolia Ave., Olanta, SC 29114 with Rev. Burton Welsh officiating. The graveside service will follow at the Olanta Baptist Church Cemetery (605 Park Avenue, Olanta, SC) alongside his parents and other family members . Memorials may be made to hospice: Capital Caring Health, Attn: Steve Cone, 3180 Fairview Park Dr., Falls Church, VA 22042 . Floyd Funeral Home is assisting the family with the final services.
