Dalton "Pat" Mckenzie

July 13, 1944 — December 15, 2022

LAKE CITY – Dalton “Pat” McKenzie, age 78, widower of Peggy Barfield McKenzie, entered his eternal rest on Thursday, December 15, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Born July 13, 1944, in Florence County, SC, he was a son of the late Spurgeon McKenzie and the late Jennie Belle Floyd McKenzie. He was a member of New Town Free Will Baptist Church; was a 1963 Graduate of Olanta High School; and was a Mason with Beulah Lodge 259. He was retired from ABB, Inc. in Florence, SC. After retirement, he quickly learned sitting idle was not for him and he took a job with Florence County Public Works. He was hard working and loved his family. He was lovingly called “PaPa” by his grandchildren, and they brought much joy to his life. He enjoyed being outside and riding on his tractor. He planted a garden every summer. What he loved most was to cook whole hog barbeque with wood. He loved bringing the family together at Christmas through this tradition. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by one son, Patrick (Teresa) McKenzie of Florence; one daughter, Patti (David) Parker of Lake City; four grandchildren, Gabby, Jackson, Leah, and Liam; two sisters, Joyce M. Hayes of Lake City, and Dorothy M. McFaddin of New Zion; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 54 years; one brother, Jerry McKenzie; and one sister, Betty Anne McKenzie. A funeral service will be held 3 PM on Sunday, December 18, 2022, at New Town Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Nail and Rev. Harry Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Thomas Cemetery, Olanta. Pallbearers will be Legare Hayes, John Hayes, Loy Hayes, Ethan Sivertsen, Drew Miles and Dalton MIles. A visitation will be held Sunday, one hour prior to the service (2 – 3PM) in the church sanctuary and at other times at the residence, 3272 Jennie Road, Lake City, SC. The family request that memorials be made to New Town Free Will Baptist Church, 1891 New Town Road, Lake City, SC 29560. Floyd Funeral Home, 136 E. Main Street, Olanta, SC, is in charge of the arrangements, (843)396-4470. www.floydfuneral.com
