TIMMONSVILLE – David “Dick” Richard Granger, Sr., 100, widower of Sara Vause Granger, entered his eternal rest on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at MUSC Health Florence. Born May 24, 1922, in Olanta, he was a son of the late Thomas Elias Granger and the late Vernila Jones Granger. Dick was saved and joined Bethany Free Will Baptist Church in 1934 at the age of 12. He served Bethany as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and bell ringer for Vacation Bible School. He was a World War II veteran having served in the US Army from 1942 – 1946. He was a leading agent with Durham Life Insurance Company; he farmed; served on the Florence City/County Building Commission for 32 years; was a mason with the Olanta Lodge; and a member of the Olanta American Legion and the VFW. He enjoyed quail hunting, fishing and spending time at his pond. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and enjoyed watching boxing. He was a people person; loved talking to and being around people. He always put his church and family first. He is survived by one son, David R. Granger, Jr. of the home; three step-grandchildren, Ron (Karen) Stidham of Florence, Kent (Leslie) Stidham of Darlington, Melissa (Burt) Hall of Timmonsville; one sister, Lethea G. Barrineau of Lake City; one sister-in-law, Ann Granger of Swansea; and twelve nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 70 years; one son, Benjamin T. Granger; one Sister, Dorothy Sullivan; two brothers, Pete Granger and William H. “Bud” Granger’ and one brother-in-law, Shelby Barrineau. A funeral service will be held 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at Bethany Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. David Carlson and Rev. Earl Hannah officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Granger, Jeffry Barrineau, Tommy Sullivan, Heath Granger, Hugh Granger, Davey Grainger, and Petey Granger. A visitation will be held from 5 – 7 PM on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Floyd Funeral Home and at other times 3847 Creek Road, Timmonsville, SC. The family request that memorials be made to Bethany Free Will Baptist Church, 4071 Creek Road, Timmonsville, SC 29161.
