Fredis R. Strickland, Sr.

April 5, 1936 — October 17, 2021

SCRANTON – Fredis R. Strickland, Sr., 85, husband of Judith Strickland, entered his heavenly reward on Sunday, October 17, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Born, April 5, 1936, in Florence County, he was a son of the late Harvey Ruffin Strickland and the late Agnes Revelle Strickland. He was retired from DuPont Manufacturing. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, choir member, and trustee. He was a veteran of the US Army and was honorably discharge as a sharpshooter. He is survived by his wife of 60 years; one daughter, Belinda Walsh (John) of Columbia; six grandchildren, Miranda Strickland Jones, Jordan Friar, Camala Richmond (Monty), Brittany Haas (Joe), Abigail Walsh, and Lizzie Walsh; three great grandchildren, Kylie Camak, Braylin Richmond, and Cameron Richmond; and one sister, Betty Hancock Williams (Edsel). He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Fredis “Freddie” R. Strickland, Jr.; a brother, Kenneth Strickland; and one sister, Addie Rea Strickland. A funeral service will be held 3 PM on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Dennis, Rev. Matt Elmore, and Rev. Sherwood Lee officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Allen Rogers, Sam Sistrunk, John Mathews, Chad Johnson, and Patrick Lovelace. Visitation will be held from 1 – 3 PM in the church sanctuary. The family request that memorials be made to Bethel Baptist Church, The Dementia Foundation, or Amedysis Hospice. COVID-19 precautions of face masks and social distancing are required at the visitation and service. Floyd Funeral Home, 136 E. Main Street, Olanta, SC is in charge of the arrangements (843)396-4470.
