Gayle Marie Morris

September 30, 1947 — February 23, 2022

Gayle Marie Morris Our beloved Marie left this earth for her heavenly home on February 23, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She fought a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease for many years. She was born September 30, 1947, to the late Ellison Russell Morris, Jr. and Juanita Kirby Morris and lived a full life in the Turbeville community. Marie graduated from East Clarendon High School and worked in the Baxter Laboratory in Kingstree, SC where she made many life-long friends. She was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church. Marie was a passionate supporter of animals and participated many times in the Mutt Strut to raise money for the SPCA in Sumter. She loved watching football and played softball for many years with a strong second base. She enjoyed family vacations at the beach, blowing the “white stuff” from your mouth on cold winter days and fishing. She also enjoyed listening to country music, but her favorite passion was her family. Although Marie had no natural children, she helped raise all of her nieces and nephews with afternoon car rides, trips to buy candy, playing games, swimming, concerts, and just having fun. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Gwen Coker, her brother Ronnie Morris, nephew Rodney Morris, brothers-in-law Pompy Coker and Perry Coker and aunts and uncles. She is survived by her loving and supportive sisters, Margie (Mike) Lee of Sumter, Suzanne Coker of Turbeville and Vicky Morris of the Turbeville home place. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who loved her with all of their hearts and many precious cousins and friends. She also leaves behind her adorable fur babies Mattie and Lizzie. The family would like to thank Dr. Eagerton of Manning and the McLeod Hospice staff for their many hours of care and support. A very special thanks to her primary care givers, Heather Matthews and Devin Via of McLeod Hospice, and Chloe Floyd. Your love and patience will never be forgotten. A memorial service will be held 11a.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation one hour prior to the service, and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to the SPCA of Sumter. Fly high Ree!
