George D. Mims, Jr

FLORENCE – George Dargan Mims, Jr., 87, husband of Myrtle Miller Mims, entered his eternal home on Sunday, January 1, 2023. Born December 17, 1935, in Olanta, SC. He was a son of the late George Dargan Mims, Sr. and the late Myrtie Caulder Mims. George worked at Stone Container for 30 years where he was the lead operator in the Power House. He enjoyed fishing and bird hunting. He is survived by his wife of 40 years; two daughters, Donna Leslie of Florence and Collete Richardson of Effingham; one son, Christopher (Amanda) Mims of Evergreen; a special nephew who was like a son, Joseph D. Mims of Johnsonville; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Eula Beverly Mims, Jetty Rue Mims, Irene Mims Taylor, and Nell Mims Brown; two brothers John Wilson Mims and Lonnie James Mims. A funeral service will be held 10am on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Dennis and Pastor Nelson Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Terry Hughes, Wesley Hughes, Gordon Miller, Andy Miller, Hunter Mims, and Jay Hughes. A visitation will be held from 6 – 8 pm on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at Floyd Funeral Home and at other times at the residence 2829 Farmingdale Road, Florence, SC.
