Glady Wilkes Ard Olanta Mrs. Gladys Elizabeth Wilkes Yates Ard entered eternal rest on December 28, 2010. Funeral services will be 2pm, Friday, December 31st, 2010 at Floyd Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Olanta Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Floyd Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, December 30th, 2010 at the funeral home. Born September 1, 1931, in Olanta, she was a daughter of the late Johnnie and Sallie Nettles Wilkes. Mrs. Ard was a charter member of Frierson's Tabernacle where she was active and served in many positions. She depended on her strong faith in God to overcome many challenges including her battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Prior to her final years with Alzheimer's she led an active lifestyle and was committed to serving God, her church and her family. She loved fishing, sewing, cooking, gardening and traveling. She was an amazing mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed and forever loved by her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, William "Buddy" Yates. Her husband, Richard L. Ard Sr. Two sisters, Cecil Wiessner and Myrtle Moore. Nine brothers, Eustil, Charles W. "C.W." (M.I.A. in Korea), Jimmy W. "J.W.", Johnny R. "Rue", Theodore, Caleb, and Luther Wilkes, Sam and Hoyt Nettles. Surviving are two daughters, Jeanette (Jack) Frierson of Olanta, Sheryl (Earl) McKenzie of Rock Hill, S.C. Five grandchildren, Sara Frierson of Columbia, Angela (Chris) Williams of Fort Mill, S.C., Bridget (Michael) Tinker of Fort Knox, KY, Shannon Yates of Camden and Sabrina (Jason) Singletary of Lake City. Three great grandchildren, Caleb Williams, Addison and Aidan Singletary. One sister, Onita (J.A.) Beard of Olanta. A special brother-in-law, John Wiessner of Weatherly, PA. Six step children, Ruth (Jackie) Fogle, Thomas (Myra) Ard, Johnny (Emma) Ard, Dickie (Patty) Ard, Sue (David) Whaley, Betty Lou (Curtis) Whaley. Eleven step grandchildren, many step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, P.O.
