Hoyt R. Yates

Turbeville – Hoyt R. Yates, age 90, husband of Phyllis McQuitty Yates, entered his eternal rest on Friday, June 30, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born March 1, 1933 in Clarendon County, in the Barrineau Community, he was the son of the late Silas Pete Yates and Maggie Parker Yates. He served in the United States Army, was a retired construction worker having worked and in business with Plowden Construction Company, and Roadbuilders. He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors, and was a member of Pine Grove Methodist Church of Turbeville. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Karen Yates Metzer of Columbia, Becky Yates (Jerry) Levine of Turbeville; one son, Kenny (Wendy) Yates of Turbeville; five grandchildren, Julia Ann (Jim) Kennedy, Allison (Justin) Muller, Mary Ashley (Wesley) Turner, Timothy Metzer, Coleman Yates; five great-grandchildren, Jenni Kennedy, Jamie Kennedy, James Muller, Henry Muller, and Raina Turner; one brother, Elbert Yates; mother-in-law, Mildred L McQuitty; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers and sisters, Ernest Yates, Christine Bennett, Barnwell Yates, Lillian Morley, Raymond Ray Yates, and Larry Yates. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, July 3, 2023 at Pine Grove Methodist Church with Reverend Patrick G. Goodwin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 -8 PM each day at the home, 1671 Pope St. Turbeville, South Carolina 29162 Special thanks to Amedysis Hospice, Dee Stegall, our sister Tanya Smith, Shirley Nero and Lois Mickens.
