James Henson Acker

TAYLORS – James “Jim” Henson Acker, 78, husband of Julianne Gamble Acker, entered into his eternal rest on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Born July 19, 1943, in Columbus, MS, he was a son of the late Jack Preston Acker and the late Winnifred Henson Acker. He was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church in Taylors. He also was retired from State Farm Insurance Company where he served as an Agency Field Executive. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Jim loved the game of football. He was fortunate enough to play in college and coach at the high school level for ten years. He loved to travel but most of all he loved being around his family. He is known for his generosity and for making everyone feel special and loved. He is survived by his wife of 58 years; his three children, James Scott Acker (Lori) of Easley, Allyson Acker Lamb (Bobby) of Taylors, and Douglas Gamble Acker (Liz) of Greenville; seven grandchildren, Lindsey Acker (Brendon), Sallie Tipton (John), Taylor Lamb (Halie), Dalton Acker, Logan Acker, Lydia Acker, and Adam Browning; two great grandchildren, Emory Tipton and Cooper Lamb; one brother, Jack Acker (Ana) of FL; one sister-in-law, Nadine Acker of TX; one brother-in-law, Al Haslem of GA; two special sisters-in-law, Mit Green (Vere) of Turbeville and Meg Boyles (Philip) of Easley; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Major General Bill Acker (Ret.); one sister, Dottie Haslam; his parents-in-law, Julian & Harriett Gamble; and one niece, Nikki Knight. A graveside funeral service will be held 11:30am on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at the Turbeville Southern Methodist Church Cemetery, 1090 Morgan Street, Turbeville, SC with Rev. Ralph Carter officiating. The family will receive guest following the service at the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Taylor Lamb, Dalton Acker, John Tipton, Brendon McCoy, Josh Salley, Gary Knight, Johnny Harvin, Michael Dodd, and Tyler Boyles. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:30am on Monday, June 20, 2022 at Brushy Creek Baptist Church, 4999 Old Spartanburg Road, Taylors, SC. The family will host a visitation from 10:30 – 11:30am in the church sanctuary prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to The Dream Center, 111 Hillcrest Drive, Easley, SC 29640 or Tunnel To Towers Foundation 2361 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10306.
