Beard, age 80, died Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at McLeod Hospital in Florence after an illness. A funeral service will be held 2 pm Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Friday (tonight) January 24, 2014 at the Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church near Lake City. Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Andrew James Beard and Delmot Floyd Beard. He was a retired farmer, a tobacco warehouseman and a member of the Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church. He is preceded in death by one sister, Lottie Mae Hyman; two brothers, Levi Beard, Donald Beard. Surviving are his wife, Cecile McAllister Beard of the home; two sons, Avery (Cindy) Beard of Florence, Andrew (Kristy) Beard of Lake City; two sisters, Faye Lee of Lake City, Queen (Carroll) Spring of Lake City; two brothers, Mack Arthur (Janice) Beard, Ray (Rhonda) Beard both of Lake City; five grandchildren, Jordan Ingram, Abbie Beard, Andee Beard, Shawn Hendrix, and Reid Dewitt; two great-grandchildren, Connor Hendrix and Emma Kate Hendrix; a special nephew, Mackie Beard; and special friends, Jo Jo Miller and Coell Smith.
