James Lucious Johnson

Lynchburg – James L. Johnson age 81, husband of Carole Jean Johnson, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Sumter County, son of the late Robert J. Johnson and Mava Marie Green Johnson. He was a farmer and farmed for 50 years and loved to watch crops grow and harvest them in the summer and fall. He also cared about fixing things for his brothers. He enjoyed working in his garden and sharing with his neighbors. He operated and worked on machinery at Bishopville Gin, Johnson Brothers in Mayesville, and the cotton gin for Mr. Red Phillips in Pleasant Grove. He was retired from Santee Print for 12 years, and Carolina Eastern in Lynchburg. He was a member of Shiloh Christian Church. He is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, James L. Johnson, Jr. “Jay”, Brandon Gene Johnson of Lynchburg; one grandson, Lucas E. Johnson; one sister, Dora Jean Beasley of Bishopville; two brothers, Larry (Elizabeth) Johnson of Lynchburg, Terry (Beverly) Johnson of Mayesville; three sister-in-laws, Lisa (les) Scott of Lynchburg, Annette Johnson, and Becky Johnson of Lynchburg. He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jerry Johnson, Ed Johnson, and Van Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 4 PM Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Shiloh Christian Church, Lynchburg, with burial in Shiloh Memorial Gardens, with Reverend Nick Lyerly and Reverend Michael Sykes officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 3-4 pm in the fellowship hall. Pallbearers will be Ben Johnson, Frank Johnson, Ronnie Johnson, Robbie Johnson, Tracy Johnson, Vance Johnson, Bert Beasley, Gene Dukes. Memorials may be made to Shiloh Memorial Gardens Cemetery Fund c/o 895 Pleasant Grove Road, Lynchburg, SC 29080. The family would like to thank the staff of Amedysis Hospice of Sumter for their loving, tender care they gave to Mr. James and the support to the family.
