LYNCHBURG – James Russell “Russ” Evans, Jr., 45, husband of Lauren Ivy Evans, passed away on his farm on Sunday, September 1, 2024. Born May 7, 1979 in Florence, SC he was the son of Georgia Lenora Sims Evans and the late James Russell Evans, Sr. “Russ” was a member of Sardis Baptist Church and was still involved with the Navigators Bible Study group from his time at Clemson. He was a dedicated Professional Engineer employed by SCE&G, now Dominion Energy, for over 20 years. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and colleagues as they remember his kind heart and infectious laughter. Russ loved God, his family and friends, farming, good music, and his animals. He was a rock for his family and freely donated his time, talent, and advice to any that sought it. It was evident to all that knew Russ that he poured out from the strength of Christ within him. Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” He is survived by his wife; his mother; one brother, Blake Evans of Lynchburg; one sister, April Evans of Spartanburg; and a beloved, extended family. He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents, George and Eva Dell Sims and Pauline Evans. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11am on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at the Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. Burton Welsh officiating. Burial will follow in the Mayesville-Black River Cemetery in Mayesville. A visitation will be held from 9 – 11am on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, in the sanctuary of the Sardis Baptist Church (3129 Sardis Hwy, Timmonsville, SC 29161) and at other times at the home of his mother, 1550 Pleasant Grove Road, Lynchburg, SC 29080.
