Jesse Eli Hayes Lake City - Jesse Eli Hayes age 74, passed away at McLeod Hospice House on Saturday Morning, June 11, 2016 after a long illness. Jesse was born in Williamsburg County on August 28, 1941 to parents John Eli Hayes and Camilla Snow Poston Hayes. After his mother passed away at a young age, Jesse was reared at The Free Will Baptist Home for Children in Turbeville, S.C. Jesse worked on many farms throughout the community during his formative years and was very close to Mr. Ollie and Mrs. Gladys Mims and family. He was a member of Beulah AFM Masonic Lodge #259 in Olanta for more than forty years. Jesse was employed for almost thirty years with Talon Inc. in Lake City until it closed and he then retired from Nan Ya Plastics Corporation in Lake City in 2013. Jesse married Joyce McKenzie, daughter of Mrs. Jennie Bell and Mr. Spurgeon McKenzie on August 28, 1962. He is survived by his wife, Joyce and three sons, Spurgeon Legare Hayes of Lake City, John Nathan (Kimberly) Hayes of Lake City and Loy McKenzie (Paula) Hayes of Lake City, three grandchildren, Daegan Cupp, Christian Hayes, Gavin Hayes, and two grandchildren on the way. Jesse is also survived by six brothers, Mr. Jimmy Hayes and Mr. Claude (Deloris) Hayes of Philadelphia, Pa., Mr. Marion (Dale) Hayes of Myrtle Beach, Mr. Linwood (Judy) Hayes of Hartsville, Mr. David Hayes of Florence, and Mr. Frank Mahoney (Debbie) Hayes of Johnsonville, three sisters, Mrs. Ida Ruth "Pigeon" (Rocky) McCutcheon of Lake City, Mrs. Mary (Ronnie) Altman of Florence, and Mrs. Connie Powers of Johnsonville. He was predeceased in death by a brother, Isaac (Barbara) Hayes of Marshville, NC, and a sister, Mrs. Millie Kelley of Darlington, and two infant brothers, Tommy Snow Hayes, and Joe Mahoney Hayes. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 5 to 6 PM on Tuesday June 14, 2016 at New Town Free Will Baptist Church (www.newtownfwbchurch.com) in Lake City, SC, immediately followed by a graveside service at 6 PM in New Town Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery directly behind the church directed by Floyd Funeral Home.
