COWARD - Joseph Ervin Barwick, Jr., age 68, died December 4, 2023, at his residence after an illness, surrounded by his family. Born in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Joseph Ervin Barwick, Sr. and Marguerite Coulter Barwick. Mr. Barwick was a retired electrician for the City of Florence for 13 years. He loved God and his family most of all, including his fur babies, Buddy and Bay Bay. He had a passion for fishing, cooking for his church, BBQ cookoffs and helping others. He was a member of Tabernacle FWB Church of Coward. He loved football and racing, and was die hard Gamecock Fan. He is survived by his wife of twenty nine years, Anna B. Barwick of Coward; three children, Susan Dutton of Turbeville, Will (Shannon) Floyd of Darlington, Beth (Derrick Euten) Matthews of Coward; five grandchildren, Sarah (Joseph) Timmons of Marion, Joshua (Sam) Dutton of Columbia, Caleb Matthews & Aden Matthews of Coward, Boots Floyd of Darlington; two great-grandchildren, River Sheffield of Marion, Jasper Dutton of Columbia; three brothers, Phil Barwick (Susan) of Dalzell, Richard Barwick (Kathy) of Manning, Robbie Barwick (Joann) of Sumter; two sisters, Joyce Morris of Sumter, Suzie Myers (Gregg) of Georgia; special nephews, D.J. (Renee) Mixon of Turbeville, George (Amanda) Ray of Scranton; special brother-in-law, Danny (Carolyn) Mixon of Kingstree; special cousin, Bill & Lynn Wingate of Myrtle Beach. He is preceded in death by his parents; two sons-in-law, Jody Dutton and Stevie Matthews. Services will be held 2 PM on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Tabernacle FWB Church of Coward with Rev. Danny Stone officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday, December 7, 2023. Special thanks to Dr. Jona and Staff at McLeod Pulmonary, Dr. Rao and Staff at McLeod Oncology and Hematology Associates, Dr. Lamb and Staff of MUSC Lake City, and the McLeod Hospice Team for their special care for Mr. Barwick. Special thanks to Malcom Mike Cook of Florence and Bryan McAllister of Coward for being his best friends for many years.
