BARRINEAU/LAKE CITY – John Cooper “J.C.” McKenzie, 78, husband of Margaret "Margie" Scurry McKenzie, entered into his eternal rest on Friday, May 6, 2022 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Born November 5, 1943, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Rev. Fitchue Blight McKenzie and the late Mary Eunice McKenzie McKenzie. He was a member of Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Lake City VFW. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served active duty in Vietnam and Desert Storm. He was retired from the maintenance department of Bosch Braking Systems of Sumter. He is survived by his wife of 31 years; one son, John Scott (Kimberly) McKenzie of Lake City; one daughter, Rebecca McKenzie (Keith) Morris of Lake City; one step-son, Chuck (Sherie) McDonald of Murrells Inlet; four grandchildren, Dixon McKenzie, Ella Kate McKenzie, Nathan Morris, and Jordan (Allie) Morris; one great grandchild, Indy Joe Morris; three sisters, Vonette McKenzie (Joseph) Mixon, Brenda McKenzie (Robert) Lee, and Dorothy Jean (Carl) Daniels; two sisters-in-law, Emily McKenzie and Julia McKenzie Feagin; one brother-in-law, Kenneth Weaver; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Venroe McKenzie, Padgett McKenzie, and Willis McKenzie; and one sister, Amarell McKenzie Weaver. A funeral service will be held 3pm on Sunday, May 8, 2022 in the sanctuary of Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Dr. Bobby Ray Floyd, Jr. and Rev. Michael Cantey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be Jordan Morris, Nathan Morris, Dixon McKenzie, Darman Weaver, Mark Daniels, Hayward McKenzie, and Kevin McKenzie. Visitation will be held from 2 – 3PM on Sunday at the church prior to the service. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the Amedysis Hospice Program, especially to Dee Stegall, Tonya Smith, Alesha Flowers and Rev. David Richardson for their love and care of JC during his final days.
