John Frederick Floyd

COLUMBIA - John Frederick Floyd, 88, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at his home in Columbia. John was born on December 13, 1935, in Olanta, SC , a son of the late J. Harris Floyd and the late Louise McClam Floyd. A proud alumnus of Olanta High School, John graduated in 1954 and went on to pursue higher education at the University of South Carolina, earning a BA Degree in English in 1958. His academic pursuits laid the foundation for a successful career as an employee of the South Carolina Employment Security Commission, where his professionalism and integrity earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike. John also proudly served in the United States Army Reserve. He is survived by his brother, William Harris (Nell) Floyd of Olanta; nieces Claire (Matt) Goodstein and Jessica (Jason) Hill; grand nephews, Graham Hill and Floyd Goodstein; and grand nieces, Sara Goodstein and Ellis Hill. A graveside service will be held 10am on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the Thomas Cemetery (751 Park Avenue, Olanta). The family will receive friends following the graveside service and at other times at the home of William and Nell Floyd 3327 W. Old #4 Highway, Olanta.
