John Larry Pigate, I

John Larry Pigate I, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 5th, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on Sunday, September 25th, 1949, in Darlington County, South Carolina a son of the late Robert Lewis Pigate and the late Thelma Lee Pigate. John was a cherished resident of Olanta, SC, where he spent the majority of his life dedicating himself to his family and community. John Larry was the loving father of one daughter, Nancy Bass of Turbeville, and two sons, John Larry Pigate II (Nikki) of Turbeville and Kenneth E. Pigate of Effingham. He was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren: James Beard, Bryan Coker, Michael Bass, Michaela Bass, Tyler Pigate, and Taylor Pigate; and two special friends Peggy Johnson and Dickie Kirby all of whom will miss him dearly. John Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Nancy Kay Welch. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Floyd Funeral Home, Inc. for their compassionate care and support during this difficult time. A service to honor John's life and legacy will be held 2pm on Sunday, March 9, 2025 in the chapel of Floyd Funeral Home with Rev. Myers Graham officiating. Burial will follow in the Olanta Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Reardon, Tray Robinson, Austin Floyd, Thad Floyd, Bryan Coker, and Andrew Welch. A visitation will be held from 5 - 7 pm on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Floyd Funeral Home, Olanta. John Larry Pigate I was a man of integrity and love. His warmth and spirit will be missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will continue to inspire those he has left behind. May he rest in peace.
