John Henry Sims

Olanta John Henry Sims, age 85, died Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at his home following an illness. Funeral Services will be held at 3 pm Friday, June 21, 2019, at Olanta Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Floyd Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm - 3 pm prior to the service at Olanta Baptist Church. Born in Florence County, he was the son of the late John M. Sims and Ella Mae Matthews Sims. John was a retired auto mechanics instructor at South Florence Career Center, a member of Olanta Baptist Church where he was former Chairman of the Board of Deacons, a member of the Men's Brotherhood, and a former teacher of the Thomas Truluck Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold Sims and Earl Sims; and two sisters, Gracie Mae Freeman and Shirley Buddin; and three brothers-in-law, Ralph McAllister, Hamp Freeman, and David Buddin. Surviving are his wife, Miriam Morris Sims of Olanta; one daughter, Sondra (Eddie) Floyd of New Zion; three sons, John W. (Carol) Sims of Florence, Larry O. (Miriam) Sims of Florence, Roger D. (Virginia) Sims of Florence; Four sisters, Miriam McAllister of Coward, Sybil (Rev. Roger) Tripp of Ayden, NC, Carolyn (Rev. Harry) Cooper of Olanta, and Barbara (James) Ramsey of Lake City; One brother, James (Carol) Sims of Olanta; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren,.
