Effingham, SC - Joseph "Joey" Mendel Brown Jr., a beloved father, son, brother, and friend, peacefully passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2025, just shy of his 66th birthday. Born on March 23, 1959, in Florence County, South Carolina, he was a son of Joan Turbeville Brown and the late Joseph Mendel Brown, Sr., Joseph was a cherished member of his community and will be dearly missed. "Joey" was a dedicated mill operator with West Rock Paper Mill, whose hard work and commitment were admired by all who knew him. Beyond his professional life, he was a member of the Bethany Free Will Baptist Church and was a Mason with the Oak Grove Lodge, where he fostered deep connections and contributed generously to his community. He is survived by his loving mother; his daughter, Courtney Brown of Columbia; his son, Joseph Blaine Brown of Effingham; and his sister, Kaye Brown of Florence. Joey was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Mendel Brown, Sr., A graveside funeral service will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at the Bethany Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 6 to 8 PM at Floyd Funeral Home in Olanta, SC.
