Columbia Mr. Julian Laverne "Billy" Hicks, age 79, of Columbia, formerly of Turbeville passed away September 12, 2017. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 12 noon in the chapel of Floyd Funeral Home. The family will greet friends one hour prior to memorial service at the funeral home. Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Jesse James Hicks, Sr. and Eva Baggette Hicks. Mr. Hicks was a Veteran with the National Guard, a graduate of Newberry College, received his Master's Degree from Virginia Tech and he retired from the S.C. Education system. He was a lifelong member of Horse Branch Free Will Baptist Church, he sang with the Palmetto Masters Singers for over 20 years, and directed and sang in many choirs, he loved traveling with his good friend, Raymond Smith of Pomaria, S.C., and he loved his family and helped with the care of his parents, his sister, and his brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Julia Driggers; two brothers, Elbert Hicks and Jim Hicks. Surviving are a sister, Myrtle (Marion) Riggs of Manning, a sister-in-law, Kay Hicks of Turbeville, and a number of nieces and nephews.
