Leon Gayles Martin

Leon G. Martin Scranton Mr. Leon G. Martin, age 71, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013 at his home after an illness. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Beulah Free Will Baptist Church of the Pentecostal Faith with burial at Hicks Hill Cemetery, directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta. Visitation will be 6-8 pm tonight (Tuesday) at the church, and other times at the church fellowship hall. Born in Florence County, he was the son of the late Robert Lee Martin and Bertie Mae Matthews Martin. Mr. Martin was raised by Mary Coward, and a retired welder at Socar, where he worked for 43 years. He was preceded in death by three sisters; Alberta Wilkes, Thelma Weaver, and Dorothy Yarborough; two brothers, John William and Dallas Martin. Surviving are his wife, Joyce Ann Langston Martin of Scranton; a son, Leon Gayles Martin, Jr. of Scranton; April Caraway of Coward. Four sisters, Bonnie R. Shady of Scranton, Margaret Miles of Coward, and Shirley Martin of Florence, Lela Joyce Martin of Kingstree; one brother, Mitchell Martin of Scranton. A granddaughter, Dawn Elizabeth Martin, and an abundance of nieces and nephews.
