TURBEVILLE - Malcolm F. “Maxie” Dukes, III, age 57, the love of Wanda Pearson, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 24, 2023, at MUSC- Florence surrounded by his loving family. Born March 29, 1966, in Sumter, SC to the late Malcolm F. Dukes, Jr (Mack) and Teresa Morris Dukes. Maxie lived in the Puddin’ Swamp community his whole life. He was a former carpenter and construction worker. He loved to fish, listen to bluegrass music, was an avid reader, and loved to cut grass. Maxie especially loved BBQ season - firing the pit, mopping the meat, telling tales and the fellowship. He leaves behind his faithful pets Lilly, Pearl, and Scooter. He is survived by his life partner Wanda; two sons, Malcolm Gunner Dukes of Hartsville and Benjamin Joseph Dukes of Turbeville. He considered Wanda’s children his also: Steven Pearson (Brittany), Patrick Pearson (Allie), and Jessica Drew (Shane); grandchildren, Kayden Pearson, Miller Pearson, Savannah Drew, Lucy Pearson, and Anna Pearson; one brother, Charles (Chuck) Dukes (Marie); one sister, Lynn Dukes (Harry); a special nephew, Stephen Dukes (Wendy); a special niece, Courtney Dukes Atkinson (Travis); two great nephews, Charles Dukes and Tillman Dukes; one great niece, Leila Dukes; a special sister-in-law, Chris Powell; and his mother-in-law, Miriam Hare. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Herbert Dukes and his sister, Fairy Ann Wiley. A memorial service will be held at 2PM Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Turbeville Southern Methodist Church. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeffery Osborne, Will Eddings, Robert Dukes, Marion Dukes, Johnny Player, Stephen Dukes, Charles Dukes, Tillman Dukes. The family will receive visitors at 3799 Clarence Coker Hwy. (Lynn’s home) on Friday from 5:00 -8:00pm and following the memorial service in the church’s fellowship hall. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to all the staff of MUSC-Florence for such wonderful and caring attention. The family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
