James Mallory Graham Jr., age 71, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018 at his home in Winston-Salem, NC. A memorial service will be held Wednesday night at JC Green and Sons Funeral Home in Winston-Salem, NC from 5-7:30 p.m. and funeral services will be held on Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Olanta Baptist Church in Olanta, SC. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Friday afternoon at the Olanta Baptist Church. A native of Olanta, SC, Mallory was the son of Isla "Droop" Myers Graham and the late James Mallory Graham. He was a six-time Emmy award-winning choreographer for Television Craft Excellence/Director and Television Programming Excellence/Live Special Events, show director, Vietnam Veteran, recipient of the Bronze Metal V-Device, lifetime performer, and dance teacher. Mallory lived in New York City for many years as a cast member on soap opera, The Edge of Night, a Broadway performer, and teacher. He toured with Danny and Betty Hoctor's Dance Caravan for 25 years where he taught tap and jazz all around the world. While teaching in Dance Caravan, he recorded more than twenty dance instructional albums and records. He was artist in residence for Jacqueline Dorminy- President of Professional Dance Teachers Association early on in his career and made his home in Winston-Salem due to her influence. He later opened up his dance studio, Mallory Graham's Dance South in High Point, NC. During the summers Mallory choreographed and directed High Steppin' Country at Lakewood Campground in Myrtle Beach, SC and directed pageants for the Miss America Organization- Miss Pennsylvania, Miss North Carolina, and his favorite, the Miss Mississippi Pageant. For the past ten years, Mallory taught at Dance Center Greensboro in Greensboro, NC. Surviving are his mother, Isla "Droop" Myers Graham; brothers Allen "Al" (June) Graham of Lynchburg, Russell (Anne) Graham of Lexington, KY, Billy (Teresa) Graham of Olanta; and his niece Cassie Graham-Rodgers (Shady) of Olanta.
