Margie Buddin Edge

June 24, 1955 — November 7, 2023

TURBEVILLE – Margaret “Margie” Buddin Edge, 68 entered her eternal rest on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Margie was born June 24, 1955, to the late Silas Bruce and Gladys Watts Buddin, the third of five children raised in the home on Coker Street. In her youth, she was a tomboy and spent her time changing out the transmission in her 1965 Ford Mustang and lifting weights with the guys. After graduation, she attended secretarial college at Central Carolina in Sumter and met her husband, Charles Michael Edge (deceased). Before their divorce, their brief marriage produced one son, Chris, who was the light of her life. From that moment on, she devoted her life to being there for him. Soon after his birth, Margie was diagnosed with a severe case of the autoimmune disease rheumatoid arthritis which rapidly began to deteriorate her joints and bones leading to a lifetime of pain and more than 25 surgeries including multiple hip, knee, knuckle, and shoulder replacements. Throughout her life of struggle, she maintained a love of God, a positive outlook on life, and a strong sense of perseverance to keep active and involved in her son’s life and in the life of her community. She was and remains to be the strongest person many people have ever known as she lived through her life of suffering without complaining. She served as a member of the Turbeville Rescue Squad for many years and made many friends in the community, as a clerk at the town hall, and as a poll worker for elections at her local polling place. However, her greatest love was being involved in the lives of the children in her community. Ms. Margie, Mar Mar, Grandma, Chris Edge’s mom; she went by many names and although she technically only had one child, she was a bonus mother, aunt, and grandmother to countless others through the years. As a lifelong, faithful member of First Baptist Church of Turbeville, she gained her children through her service to her church as the head of the nursery and the Sword Drill commander for decades starting back in the 1980s; through her involvement with the East Clarendon High School volleyball and softball teams, as an unofficial coach, dugout mom, and bookkeeper from the early 1990’s all the way up until just before her passing; from her years of service at the back gate of every home football game; and from over forty years of opening her door to all of the friends of her son, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and any and every child of the community who was in need of love. Her unconditional love for and acceptance of the last three generations of children who came through the doors of East Clarendon, First Baptist Church, and the Town of Turbeville is her lasting legacy. In 2023, Margie was inducted into the East Clarendon Athletic Hall of Fame for her life-long devotion to the EC Athletic program. Margie is survived by her son, Stephen Christopher “Chris” Edge and her daughter in law, Teress Welch Edge of Sumter; one bonus daughter, Crystal Miller; one granddaughter, Natalie Teress Edge of Sumter; one grandson, Silas Cooper Edge of Sumter; three brothers, Ronald Sodusta (Candee) Buddin of Turbeville, Michael Dane (Faye) Buddin of Irmo; and Anthony Bruce (Pat) Buddin of Sumter; one sister, Anna Keene Buddin of Turbeville; nieces and nephews, Stephen Buddin, Kasey (Wayne) Holmes, Dustin (Molly) Buddin, Jamie (Edward) Carmon, Nicole Craft, Michelle Buddin, Danielle Buddin, Timothy (Katie) Buddin, Sarah (Brandon) Caples, Megan (Leo) Seamon; Kyndal (Chris) Moore, and Will (Avery) Mullen; many grand nieces and nephews; and special family friend, Judy Coker. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a nephew, Edward “Eddie” Buddin. A funeral service will be held 3pm on Sunday, November 12, 2023, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Turbeville with Rev. Mike Lowder, Rev. Chris Moore and Rev. Patrick Goodwin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Stevie Buddin, Edward Carmon, Brandon Caples, Leo Seamon, Will Mullen, Wayne Holmes, Timmy Buddin, Hayden Craft and Kyle Booth. A visitation will take place from 2 – 3pm on Sunday in the church sanctuary and at other times at the residence, 1048 Coker Street, Turbeville, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the East Clarendon Athletic Booster Club at P.O. Box 245, Turbeville, SC 29162 and earmarked to be used for the volleyball and softball teams. The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Amedisys Hospice and Home Health and especially to Tanya Smith and Dee Stegall for their tender love and care of Margie. Arrangements made through Floyd Funeral Home, 136 E. Main Street, Olanta, SC, (843)396-4470. www.floydfuneral.com
