Marlee Welch Baird

Marlee Mariah Welch Baird, age 92, died October 31, 2020 at the home of her daughter Carol Miles after an extended illness. Born in Clarendon County she was a daughter of the late McSwain Welch and Annie Turbeville Welch. She was married to her late husband Wright Oscar Baird for 54 years. She was a licensed Cosmetologist, who owned and operated Marlee's Beauty Shop which was the first of its kind in New Zion. She was affectionately known throughout the community among family and friends as 'Bunt'. She was a long time member of The Living Church of God. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wright Oscar Baird; one son, John Rockwell Baird; one granddaughter, Penny Lynn Miles; one grandson, John Rockwell Baird, Jr; two sisters, Earlene Welch Joyce and Avis Welch Coker; four brothers, Ivan Welch, James Welch, Paul Welch and Doyle Welch. She is survived by her beloved family; daughter, Carol Baird Miles of New Zion; son, Wayne (Brenda) Baird of New Zion; four grandchildren, Carol Ann Miles Plant (Kenneth) of Autryville, NC; Dinah Miles Winnail (Scott) of Hagerstown, MD; Johnny Baird (Jessica) of New Zion, and Janet Baird Evans (Jeffrey) of New Zion; a granddaughter-in-law, Charlean Baird of Newark DE; nine great grandchildren; Brittany Baird, Johnathan Baird, Collin Winnail, Justin Baird, Evan Plant, Tara Winnail, Jordan Baird, Layla Welch, and Gavin Evans. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Carol Miles and her family would like to extend a special heart felt thank you to the Amedisys Hospice Team; Amy, Bea Bea, Tanya, Regina and Karen. A special thank you is also extended to Johnny, Jessica and Jordan Baird for their love, support and help during the time of their grandmother and great-grandmother's illness. Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday November 3, 2020 at New Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery in New Zion, SC. The family will greet friends at the cemetery immediately following the service.
