Mary E. Libby Moore

April 14, 1937 — June 16, 2023

OLANTA - Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Watts Moore, 86, passed into the arms of Jesus on Friday, June 16, 2023 at her home In Olanta surrounded by her loving family. She was married to the love of her life, James Herbert (J.H.) Moore, Jr. for 69 years. She was born April 14, 1937, one of 14 children to Edmund Bernard Watts and Annie Bell Robinson Watts. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, neighbor, aunt, and friend. She loved her Lord Jesus Christ and was an example of a Proverbs 31 woman. Libby was a member of Turbeville Southern Methodist Church where she served as the Junior Girls’ Sunday School teacher, was a member of the Marion Gamble Women’s Missionary Society, and also sang in the choir. The girls enjoyed coming to her house every year for a sleepover where they would bake cookies and pull taffy. She was a prime example of a farmer’s wife. She worked beside her husband until they retired from farming. She would work in the tobacco fields in the morning, cook lunch for the family, and return to the field. Many days she would cook lunch and carry it to the fields instead of stopping the machines for lunch. Her children and grandchildren loved her homemade biscuits with homemade strawberry jelly and her teacakes. She always had something to offer for anyone who walked through her door. Those who will cherish her memory besides her husband are two sons, James H. “Jimmy” (Ellen) Moore, III and William B. “Billy”(Fran) Moore of Olanta; five grandchildren, Jay Moore of Olanta, Michelle (Thomas) Andersen of Turbeville, Bernie (Mandy) Moore and Lee (Deidre) Moore of Lynchburg, and Trisha (Wheeler) McCallum of Blenheim; Eleven great-grandchildren, Taylor Moore, Haley Andersen, Max Andersen, Brody Andersen, Ellie Andersen, Shay Hall, Blake Moore, Drew Moore, Leah Moore, Payton Moore, and Gracielynn McCallum; two God-daughters Ashleigh (George) Knowlton and Carol Ann Griffith; sisters and brothers in laws, numerous nieces and nephews and those who were fortunate to work with the family in the summer whom she loved as family. She was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Hunter Moore; granddaughter-in-law, Michele Moore; seven brothers, Robert Watts, James Watts, Othell Watts, Franklin Watts, E.B. Watts, Jr. John Milton Watts, Wyman Watts; six sisters, Lorena Nesbitt, Mildred Green, Gladys Buddin, Elma Prescott, Sarah Bell Hendrix, and Patsy Aburn.
