Kelton Floyd Website: www.floydfuneral.com Donn Kell Floyd Toll Free: 1-800-361-2294 Obituary Department Mary Corrie Bryan Hobbs: Mrs. Mary Corrie Bryan Hobbs, 83, of Sardis SC, Widow of William Henry Hobbs, Sr., passed away on August 16, 2011 in Anderson at the home of her granddaughter. Mrs. Hobbs was born on August 12, 1928 in the Meeting Street Section of Saluda County, S.C. She was the daughter of Preston Brooks and Velma Louise Odom Bryan. Mrs. Hobbs grew up in Edgefield, SC graduating as the Valedictorian of Edgefield High School Class of 1945. She received a BS in Home Economics from Lander College, Greenwood, where she was President of her 1949 Senior Class. She was a school teacher in South Carolina Public School system for over 40 years at Olanta High; Wilder Elementary, Sumter; Spring Elementary, Darlington; and Timmonsville Elementary. Mrs. Hobbs was married to W.H. Hobbs, Sr. for 47 years from June 10, 1951 until his death on December 4th, 1998. She is survived by three sons and daughter in-laws, William Henry "Bill" Hobbs, Jr. and Patricia Christmas Hobbs, Lexington S.C. & Shanghai, China; Bryan Butler Hobbs and Patricia Williams Hobbs, Darlington, SC; and John Brooks Hobbs and Ashley Smalley Hobbs, Bluffton, SC. Mrs. Hobbs is survived by a sister Elizabeth Catherine Bryan of Anderson and a brother-in-law Van Lingle Hobbs of Sumter and was preceded in death by eight siblings, Preston Butler Bryan, Greenwood; Glenwood Bryan, Edgefield; Ellis Beale Bryan, Clinton, SC; Harry Odom Bryan, Spartanburg; Louise Bryan Bartley, Edgefield; Lena Bryan Brown, DePew, NY; Nell Bryan Kelly, Martinez, Ga; and her fraternal twin sister, Martha Ida Bryan, Darlington. Mrs. Hobbs was Grandma "Mom" to seven grandchildren, Dr. Mary Bryan Hobbs Chambers (Matt), Anderson; Emily Brooks Hobbs, Falls Church Va.; William Henry "Will" Hobbs, III, Anderson; Margaret Elizabeth "Maggie" Lynn (Bert) Charlotte, NC; John E. Bryan "JEB" Hobbs, Florence; Hazel Grey Hobbs, Bluffton; and five Great Grandchildren, Carter, Brooks, and Hobbs Chambers of Anderson; Henry T. and Isla Lynn of Charlotte. Mrs. Hobbs was a faithful Christian, a former member of Swift Creek Baptist Church, Darlington, and a member of Sardis Baptist Church since 1974. She was an active member of the Olanta Garden Club, the Hicks-Koon Sunday School Class, the Senior Adult Prayer Group Circle, and took great delight in her grandchildren, great-grand children, and many nieces and nephews. Memorials can be made to the Pastor's Discretionary Fund, Trinity United Methodist Church, Darlington, SC; Global Mission Fund, Lexington Baptist Church, Lexington, SC; Building Fund, Sardis Baptist Church; Macular Degeneration Society c/o Sardis Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at Floyd Funeral Home, Olanta, SC on Thursday, August 18th, 2010 from 6:00-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held at Sardis Baptist Church Friday, August 19th, 2010 at 4:00pm with burial in the church cemetery.
