KINGSTREE - Mattie Strickland Coker, age 94, widow of Allen Leo Coker, Sr., died Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Carlyle Nursing Home in Kingstree. Born in Kingstree, South Carolina she was a daughter of the late John Henry Strickland and the late Caroline Coker Strickland. She attended Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a retired seamstress in the garment industry. She is survived by three sons, Larry Barfield (Patsy) of Coward, Allen L. Coker, Jr. (Martha) of Florence, and Andy Coker of Lake City; two daughters, Gail Spring and Patsy Thames (Hubert) all of Hebron; nine grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; and one brother, Jerry Strickland (Anne) of Greenville. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, James Strickland and Sam Strickland; and one sister, Geneva White. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM at Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery, Monday, August 16, 2021, with Rev. Mike McKenzie officiating. The family will receive guest following the service. Because of the current outbreak of the Delta variant of COVID-19, we recommend that attendees take the precautions of using face masks and practice social distancing at the service.
