Michael David Smith, a resident of Kingstree, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 28th, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on Thursday, April 1st, 1954, in Mooresville, North Carolina, Michael lived a life rich in love, service, and dedication.

Michael was the beloved father of two daughters, Miranda Whetsell and her husband Tim of Florence, SC, and Ashley Gulledge and her husband Dennis of North Carolina, and three sons, Brad Smith and his wife Shannon of North Carolina, Todd Smith, and Neal Smith of Kingstree. He was the proud grandfather to nine grandchildren: Lucas Whetsell, Aiden Whetsell, Alexis Gulledge, Allison Gulledge, Sarah Gulledge, Mason Gulledge, Kylie Smith, Elena Smith, and Jacob Smith. His legacy of love and kindness lives on through them.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beth Milam Smith; his parents, John William Smith and Virginia Louise Hardin; his sister, Tammy Trull; and his cousin Steve Brown. Their memories remained dear to him throughout his life.

A graduate of A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis, NC, Class of 1972, Michael answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps the same year. He served honorably until 1978, earning an honorable discharge. Following his time in the military, Michael devoted his life to ministry, touching countless lives with his guidance and compassion as a retired Minister.

Alongside his ministry, Michael found joy in woodworking and cabinet making, a hobby he cherished and shared with his son, Todd. His artistic soul also found expression in playing the guitar, and his competitive spirit shone through in his love for golfing.

A graveside funeral service will be held 2:15pm on Friday, May 2, 2025 in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Myers Graham officiating.

A visitation will be held from 1 - 2PM on Friday at Floyd Funeral Home, 136 E. Main Street, Olanta, SC.

Arrangements for Michael are provided by Floyd Funeral Home, Inc. During this time, the family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from friends and the community.

Though Michael has departed from this world, the memories of his strength, warmth, and humor will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him. His life, marked by service both to his nation and to his community, serves as a testament to a life well-lived. Rest in peace, Michael, knowing that you are deeply missed and fondly remembered.
