Miriam Brown Moore

June 1, 1937 — February 28, 2022

OLANTA – It is with heavy hearts, but our hearts are full of the love and bright memories she left with us, that we announce that the Lord called our mom, Miriam Brown Moore, home in the early morning hours of Monday, February 28, 2022. She was at home with her family who held her close until Christ took her hand. Mom was ready to see her husband of 53 years, Duckie (Wilmer Lewis) Moore. She referred to him as her “other half and soul mate” and it was obvious. Born on June 1, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Elwyn Marion (Blue) Brown and Lenora (Nora) Poston Brown. She was predeceased by her beloved sister, Jeanette Brown Jeffords and brother-in-law, Franklin Delano (Deck) Jeffords whose children, Sherri Jeffords Holloman (Chris) and Todd Franklin Jeffords, were as her own. Miriam was the devoted mother of Mitzi Gayle Moore of Florence, and Robin Marion Moore of Olanta and his wife, Jessica Wheeler Moore who she considered a second daughter. She adored her two grandchildren, Lindsey Moore Godwin (Dexter) of Olanta and Reynolds Marion Moore (Alyssa) of Pelzer. She was loving “Grammy” to her great-grandchildren, Tyson Lewis Godwin and Morgan Louise Godwin. She spoke many times of how glad she was to have married into a large family which afforded her the blessing of two more sisters and four brothers as well as the joy of many nieces and nephews. And finally, there was her dedicated and “enthusiastic” dog, Bear, who was at her side throughout her illness. She had many part times jobs over the years including her own business, “The Village Corner” dress shop. She retired after 16 years of service at the Olanta Magistrate’s Office and Floyd Funeral Home. She was a member of Nazareth United Methodist Church for over 60 years, holding many offices and serving however she could. She was always ready to GO, it didn’t matter where, she was the first in the car. She had a schedule game of Bridge “with the girls” every week for over 30 years. She loved reading, gardening, cooking, shopping, picnics, cookouts, going to the movies with Jamie and out to eat with Nancy. To her, there was nothing as beautiful as the ocean. She loved the beach, everything about it. Oh how many times we heard, “I just want to put my feet in the water!” She was happiest when her family was around her and made sure we knew how important family was. She made a big deal of every holiday and always made them special for us. She loved to celebrate our achievements and hurt when we hurt. She was young at heart, couldn’t tell a joke without laughing so that she couldn’t finish, and had the most beautiful blue eyes. She loved with her whole heart, just like she did everything else. If she cared about you; you knew it. Whatever she could do to help someone, she would. Most of the time it meant taking them food or sending handwritten notes, cards or letters (she was famous for that). She never thought she did enough; she always wanted to do more. Her heart is now healed and ours are broken, but we know where to take a broken heart. Praise be to God for her full life and for allowing us to be the family to share it with her. We look forward to the day we’ll see you again, but until then, we will keep your memory and great love alive. And yes, Mom, you did enough, more than enough. A graveside funeral service will be held 3 P.M. on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at Thomas Cemetery with Rev. Preston Grimsley officiating. Funeral attire will be casual dress. Memorials may be made to the Cemetery Fund in care of Nazareth United Methodist Church. Arrangements made through Floyd Funeral Home, 136 E. Main Street, Olanta, SC, (843)396-4470. www.floydfuneral.com
