Miss Gwendolyn Wallace

Gwendolyn Wallace Florence Gwendolyn Wallace, age 72, died Sunday, June 30, 2019 at her home after an illness. A church service will be held at 4 PM Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Olanta Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta. Visitation will be held from 6 -8 PM Monday evening at the funeral home. Born in Florence County, December 30, 1946 she was the daughter of the late John "Bub" Wallace and Ozelle Hancock Wallace. She graduated in 1964 from Olanta High School as Salutatorian of her class. She continued her education at Winthrop College with a BA degree in History. Miss Wallace began her teaching career at Moore Middle School and then moved to Sneed Middle School where she finished 30 years of teaching. After retiring from public school, she began teaching at The King's Academy where she taught for 15 years. She loved teaching but had to retire due to health issues. Miss Wallace dearly loved her family and the young students that she taught. She was a faithful and active member of Olanta Baptist Church where she served in various capacities and was a member of the Ladies Bible Class. She is survived by two sisters, Dianne (Rodney) Chandler of Florence, and Johnnie Faye (Roger) Nesbitt of Lynchburg; a very special aunt, Wilberta Seigler; precious nieces and nephews, Jody (Shay) Chandler, Tammi (Blake) Gibson, Melissa (Robbie) Truluck, Amy (Jerry) Yarborough, Lyle (Joyce) Nesbitt, Jon (Lisa) Nesbitt; Also 16 much loved great-nieces and nephews, Madeline, Abigail, Jackson, and Olivia Gibson, Kelsey, Hunter, and Kirsten Truluck, Adair and Anabel Yarborough, Bella, Laine, and Hampton Chandler, Mackayla and C. J. Nesbitt, and Addison and Amelia Nesbitt. The family would like to give special thanks to Mary "Liz" Lowery for her love and care.
