Mr. Durant J. Christmas

New Zion - Mr. Durant J. Christmas, age 83, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at his home after an illness. A funeral service will be held 2pm Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Frierson's Tabernacle with burial in McElveen Cemetery, directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta. The family will greet friends tonight (Wednesday) from 6pm - 8pm at the funeral home. Born in Kingstree, he was a son of the late Sidney Christmas and Zelma Thigpen Christmas. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, a Farmer, and attended Frierson's Tabernacle. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opaline Locklair Christmas. Surviving are a daughter, Linda Faye Christmas of Florence, two sons, Sidney Eric Christmas and James Mitchell Christmas both of New Zion, two sisters, Jacqueline Janette McElveen of New Zion, and Bobbie Jean Hutto of Manning, two brothers, Jimmy Laverne Christmas of New Zion, and Riley Lewis Christmas of Orangeburg, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.
