Timmonsville - Joseph Mendel Brown age 83, died March 10, 2018 in a Florence hospital after an illness. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Tuesday at Bethany Free Will Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Floyd Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6 - 8 PM Monday night at the funeral home. Born in Florence County, he was a son of the late Winston Keels Brown and Maggie Hicks Brown. Mr. Brown was a former auto parts salesman, a member of Bethany Free Will Baptist Church, former Chairman of the Florence County Ambulance Commission, Florence County Recreation Commission, Florence County Election Commission, and a U. S. Navy Veteran. He was preceded in death by sisters, Flonnie Gordon and Jewel Barrineau; brothers, Hilburn Brown, Larue Brown, Dillon Brown, and Carol Brown. Surviving are his wife, Joan T. Brown of the home; a daughter, Karen "Kaye" Brown of Florence; a son, Joseph M. "Joey" Brown (Debbie) of Effingham; two grandchildren, Courtney Nicole Brown of Columbia, and Joseph Blaine Brown of Timmonsville.
