NEW ZION – Barbara Leigh Gibbons Harrington, 85, widow of Hugh Alvin Harrington, received her heavenly reward on Monday, July 12, 2021, at McLeod Hospice House. Born September 7, 1935, in New Zion, she was a daughter of the late Harold Beasley Gibbons and the late Lucille Osborne Gibbons. She was a member of the New Zion United Methodist Church and was a member of the Turbeville/New Zion Sixty Plus Club. She was a retired inspector in the garment industry. She is survived by two sons, Michael Harrington (Deborah) of Effingham and Ken Harrington (Terri) of New Zion; two daughters, Cindy Brunson (Steve) of Manning and Laura Floyd (Bobby) of Barrineau; eleven grandchildren, Matt Harrington, Zach Harrington, Traci Brunson, Kelli Brunson, Allison Coker (Dylan), AshLeigh Floyd, Trent Floyd, Amanda Floyd, Alyzabeth Floyd, Rocky Coleman, Charles Coleman; seven great grandchildren, Paisleigh Oxendine, Weston Coker, Jada Coleman, Austin Coleman, Mykenna Coleman, Jimmy Coleman, Gabby Coleman; one great-great grandchild, Raelyn Parker; and a nephew, Joe Amerson. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Amerson. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am on Thursday, July 15, 2021, in the New Zion United Methodist Church sanctuary with Rev. Alan Vaught and Rev. Bobby Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10 – 11 am on Thursday, July 15, 2021, in the church’s sanctuary. Pallbearers will be Jay McElveen, Jay Johnson, Joel Welch, William Thigpen, B.D. Yarborough, and Clark Johnson. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to the charity of one’s choice. COVID-19 precautions of face masks and social distancing are suggested at the visitation and service.
