New Zion Mrs. Dorothy Turner Epps, age 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 11, 2017. Born in Effingham, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Lonnie LeRoy Turner and Addie Turner Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her husband, Muldrow Frierson Epps, her son, Charles Edward Epps, and a step-brother, Fletcher M. Johnson. She is survived by three daughters, Sandra Epps of Georgetown, Gwyn Baker (Edgar) of New Zion, and Peggy Gooby (Tom) of Braselton, Ga. Four granddaughters, Mary Kathryn Jordan (Wade), Allison Knowlton (Benny), Trudy Nettles (Lee), and Addie Gooby. Five great grandchildren, Heath Jordan, Benjamin Knowlton, Sam Jordan, Dory Knowlton, and Baker Nettles. Affectionately known by many as "Granny Dot", she was a Godly wife, and homemaker. As long as she was able, she served and gave to those around her; whether it was a caramel cake or a newly rooted hydrangea, she gave freely, and often. She delighted the Lord by serving as pianist at Bethel Presbyterian Church for 30 years and then shortly at New Zion United Methodist Church where she was currently a member. She lived a simple, yet profound life and was a blessing to all who called her, "Granny Dot". A funeral service will be held at 10am on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at New Zion United Methodist Church, with burial to follow in the Epps Cemetery on Lynchburg Road, Kingstree, S.C., directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta. Visitation will be held after the graveside, and at other times at her daughter, Gwyn Baker's home, 7032 Salem Road, New Zion, S.C. 29111. Memorials may be made to New Zion United Methodist Church Youth Group, 5171 Firetower Road, New Zion, S.C. 29111.
