Turbeville Mrs. "Dot" Bingham Atkinson, age 85, passed away at her home Saturday, June 22, 2019, after an illness. Services will be held at 3 PM Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at Pine Dale Pentecostal Holiness Church, directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Pine Dale Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment will be held at Olive Grove Church in Turbeville immediately following the church service. Born in Florence County, Dot Atkinson was the daughter of the late Jimmy Fadden Bingham and Ruthie Jane McClam Bingham. She was a graduate of Olanta High School where she played the piano for her own graduation. She also became Olanta High School's first secretary. She graduated from McLeod Hospital School of Surgical Technicians in Florence. She was employed by McLeod Hospital and later by Lower Florence County Hospital at the time of her retirement. Mrs. Atkinson was an accomplished musician in the field of gospel music. She and her family traveled extensively throughout the Carolinas, ministering in concerts, revivals, camp meetings, and many other functions. She and her family had several recordings to their credit with Relection Studios in Charlotte, NC. Mrs. Dot later recorded an instrumental CD with renowned producer, Joe Southerland which was featured on several radio stations. She is most noted for playing at funerals which numbered in the hundreds. Mrs. Atkinson also traveled abroad doing mission work in many countries. She is a member of Pine Dale Pentecostal Holiness Church and was very active in the music department where she served as the church organist. She was the most loving dedicated Mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Edward Atkinson, Sr. of 52 years; two sons, Ricky Atkinson and Charles Edward Atkinson, Jr.; a granddaughter, April Tiffany Floyd; one sister, Bernice (Jack) Barrineau; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Bingham. She is survived by two daughters, Donnette A. Morris (Steve) of Turbeville, Dr. Darlene Atkinson-Moran (Michael) of Florence; a very special daughter In-Law, Debbie Atkinson Lee (James) of Lynchburg; one brother, Orell Bingham of Lexington, SC; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a special friend, Lorraine Duncan Floyd of Myrtle Beach, SC. The family would like to give special thanks to Amedysis Care-givers, Dell, Dee, and Tonya for the love and support they gave to Mrs. Dot during her illness and to special care-givers, Kathy Welch and Mary Benjamin.
