Nancy Coker "Coco" Floyd, 61, widow of Thomas "Tom" Floyd, and daughter of Nancy Coker McFaddin and the late Richard Dyson McFaddin, died November 11, 2023. Retired culinary arts and marketing teacher, loving wife, mother and grandmother, Coco's love of life, laughter, music, and people will never be forgotten. Coco passed away too suddenly for all those who loved her. She was born in Sumter and grew up in the Turbeville Community where she attended East Clarendon School. Coco served as Drum Major for the ECHS Band and played the flute, which, in later years she shared for others at many special events. Coco's creative genius and skills included a little-known talent of riding a unicycle in special events. Coco completed her Bachelor's degree at Winthrop College in 1984. F. E. Dubose Vocational School was her first employer where she joined the staff of instructors teaching hundreds of students, marketing strategies for 10 years. In 1995, she joined the Lake City High School staff and continued to share her expertise in culinary arts. At the culmination of 39 years of teaching and sharing her passion for learning with thousands of children - she retired, May 2023 and found a new joy in spending time with her precious grandbaby girl Sutton. Her personality was contagious and flooded a room with laughter. Her students learned biscuit making along with laughter at her table top. She was loved by her students and she instilled the joy of cooking with love. As choir director, flutist and choir member, she expressed her love for music as a member of the Turbeville Southern Methodist Church and the New Zion Methodist Church where she attended. Along with her husband Tom, they were instrumental in establishing an annual New Zion 4th of July Celebration, which exuded patriotism and comradery throughout the community. In spite of her cats, the favorite of the family pets was "Cotton", the faithful dog. Surviving are her loving and devoted daughter - Nancy Caroline Floyd (Blake Shores), whom she adored, of Florence; a precious granddaughter, Sutton Anna-Caroline Shores, of Florence; her mother, Nancy Coker McFaddin of Turbeville; her sister, Muff McFaddin of Turbeville; a special cousin who was like a second mother - Debby Thames of Florence; her brothers-in-Law, Ronnie D. ( Anna) Floyd and Carl Lavender all of New Zion; sisters-in-law, Joyce F (John E.) Johnson, Cheryl F. ( Willie) Hodge, Deb H. (Skippy) Osborne all of New Zion and Gina F. (Bryan) Dantzler of Santee; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Other family members: Jim and Cathy Justice, Jay and Catherine Justice, Adam and Dr. Jill Justice Long, son J. C.; Dr. Dorn and Debbie Smith and their family. Coco had innumerable friends, all who enriched her life and her "Coker" cousins were some of her most favorites. She was preceded in death by her husband, "Tom" Floyd, the love of her life; her father, Richard Dyson McFaddin, her parents in law Bethea and Sybil Floyd, and her sister-in-law Janice Floyd Lavender. Funeral services will be 2pm on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 in the sanctuary of the Turbeville Southern Methodist Church with burial in the New Zion Methodist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be, Cade Coker, Cyle Coker, Dyson Coker, Dyson Dantzler, Brantley Hodge, Chase Hodge, Kip Hodge, Clarke Johnson, Graham Johnson, Hunter Johnson, Jay Johnson, Edward Lavender, Barnes McConnell. Honorary pallbearers will be, Marcus Baird, Brad Coker, Eddie Wilder, Bob Coker, and Ed Gamble. A visitation will be held at the home (3484 Walker Gamble Road, New Zion, SC) on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 until 8pm.
