LAKE CITY – Paul Jefferson Purvis, 83, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at MUSC Health Florence Medical Center. Born March 26, 1939, in Lake City, SC he was a son of the late Ollie Jefferson Purvis and the late Edith Henrietta Thomas Purvis. He was a member of the Turbeville Southern Methodist Church and a veteran of the US Army. He was a retired System Analyst with the State of Georgia. He was an avid dancer, a member of the Palmetto Ballroom Dance Club in Florence and associated with Sumter and Columbia dance clubs. Paul enjoyed golf, bowling and woodworking. He is survived by three brothers, Phillip Purvis and Charles “Pete” Purvis both of Lake City and Vernon Purvis (Patty) of Hartsville; one sister, Ethel P. Collins (Mike) of Campobello; two step-children, Lori Noelle Burtz of Cape Coral, FL and Lisa Burtz of Dallas, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also, Paul is survived by his beloved companion, dancing partner and care giver, Beth Simmons of Florence. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jo Burtz Purvis; two sisters, Henrietta Nettles and Jane Russell; and three brothers, Thomas Purvis, Preston Purvis and Bobby Purvis.
