Pleasant "Bill" Matthews Scranton Mr. Pleasant "Bill " Matthews, age 88, passed away Monday June 3, 2013 at Carolinas Hospital Systems of Florence after an illness. A funeral service will be held at 3pm today (Wednesday) June 5, 2013 at Beulah Free Will Baptist Church on Old #4 Hwy with burial in Hicks Hill Cemetery directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta. Born in Florence County he was a son of the late Daniel Matthews and Lelar Miles Matthews. He retired after 30 years from La-Z- Boy Furniture Company and was a member of Beulah Free Will Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ella Mae Collins Matthews; one son, Larry Matthews; three sisters, Louise Lee, Cecil McCutheon, Ernestine Jones; one brother, Edward Matthews and one grandson, Glen Evans. He is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Evans of Scranton, Susan (Bradley) Barfield of Lake City; two sons, Lavon (Linda) Matthews and Billy (Carolyn) Matthews both of Scranton; one sister, Jeanette (Dexter) Coker of Lake City; two brothers, Woodrow (Talcie) Matthews and John Walter Matthews both of Scranton; eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and three great-great-granchildren.
