SCRANTON, Rev. Elro Ingram Driggers, 87, husband of Nancy Alice Hansley Driggers, claimed his heavenly reward surrounded by his family on May 3, 2021, at his residence after an extended illness. Born May 24, 1933, in the Barrineau community of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Siah McDaniel Driggers and the late Vendell Olive Branch Miles Driggers. He was a member of Beulah Free Will Baptist Church and a member of the SC Conference of the Free Will Baptist Churches. He was a 1951 graduate of J. C. Lynch High School; a 1958 graduate of Welch College (formerly known as Free Will Baptist Bible College); and a student of Jacksonville University and the University of North Florida. Rev. Driggers served Free Will Baptist Churches in the following areas: Pine Bluff, AR; Flat River, MO; Jacksonville, FL; Miami, FL; Nashville, TN; Timmonsville, SC; Lake City, SC; Pamplico, SC; and Johnsonville, SC. He faithfully served in the ministry for 71 years, and he also retired from Florence School District 3. He is survived by his wife of 66 years; two sons, James Timothy Driggers (Cynthia) of Timmonsville and John Steven Driggers (Renee’) of Coward; one daughter, Mary Driggers Dooley (David) of Lexington; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; a brother, McDaniel Driggers of Coward; and a daughter-in-law, Lavonne Lockwood of Watkinsville, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Freddie Eugene Lockwood; four brothers; and eleven sisters. A funeral service will be at 3pm on Thursday, May 6, 2021, at Bethany Free Will Baptist Church. A private committal service will be later. Pallbearers are Daniel Lockwood, Jacob M. Knight, Benjamin Lockwood, Timothy Curtis Driggers, Jesse D. Knight, Adam N. Driggers, and Hannah R. Driggers. Visitation will take place from 1 – 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2021, at Bethany Free Will Baptist Church.
