BISHOPVILLE – Robert “Robbie” Wheeler Floyd, 63 passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024, at Carolina Pines Hospital in Hartsville, SC from complications sustained by an injury. Born January 25, 1961, in Lake City, SC, he was a son of Samuel Wheeler Floyd and the late Jacqueline McKenzie Floyd. Growing up “Robbie” was often spending time with his family, including working on the family tobacco fields to Sunday family dinners at his Grandmother’s house. “Robbie” went to Francis Marion University after he graduated Lake City High School where he played football and was affectionally known as “Chest.” In 1981, he joined the Air Force and after he completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base he attended technical training at Lowry Air Force Base, Colorado and specialized in Logistics Management. He would go on to be stationed all over the world, from Kirtland AFB, New Mexico to as far as Turkey and Bosnia where he served during Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Mountain Storm and many others. He retired a decorated veteran for his committed support and specialized skills while aiding NATO. During his time in the service he was more affectionately known as “Bam Bam.” “Robbie” was an avid traveler and enjoyed visiting new places all over Europe, Asia, and the United States with his family. He would go on to take his family to on numerous adventures to national parks all over the States and to Germany, England, Turkey, and many other locations. He had an affinity for hunting and fishing his whole life and often participated in intense trips for hunting big game which he did in four different countries. He lived for a new adventure every day and will be greatly missed by his friends and family. He is predeceased by his recent wife, Anne Floyd; and his mother, Jacklyn Floyd. He is survived by his father; one daughter, Sierra Jordan (Adam) Cyr of Old Town, Maine; one son, Jacob Robert Floyd of Henderson, Nevada; two brothers, James E. Floyd of Florence, and David B. Floyd of Lake City; two aunts, Sara Collins of Coward and Nettie Welch of Lake City; one uncle Dan (Sonya) Floyd of Pamplico; and special cousin, Craig McKenzie. A funeral service with military honors will be 2pm on Saturday, May 4, 2024, in the chapel of Floyd Funeral Home, Olanta, SC with burial in the Lake City Memorial Park.
