TURBEVILLE – RW Welch, 74, husband of Janet Feary Welch, died Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born August 1, 1947, in Turbeville he was a son of the late Paul Welch and the late Vera Barfield Welch. He was a member of Pine Dale Pentecostal Holiness Church; was a graduate of East Clarendon High School; and a veteran of the US Army having served during Vietnam in the 101st Airborne Division. After his military service he returned to Turbeville to farm with his family and later began a successful land-clearing business. He enjoyed competing in go cart racing for many years having been recognized as the 1997 Driver of the Year and as the 2000 SC Dirt Series Champion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cattle farming. He enjoyed spending time with many special friends. He especially enjoyed traveling and making memories with Lenny Jo and Dave, and Gin and Jim. He is survived by his wife of 51 years; three sons, Scott (Angela) Welch and Jason (Frances “Evonne”) Welch all of Turbeville and Willie (Erin) Welch of Timmonsville; four grandchildren, Ashley Welch, Joseph Welch, Madelynn Welch, and Paul Welch; one great grandchild, Liam Hudson; four siblings, Donald (Frankie) Welch, Richard Welch, and Vela Mae Powell all of Turbeville, and Christine (Kermit) Miles of Scranton; two sisters-in-law, Suzanne Fertig (Allen) and Judy Engle (Bob) all of Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Carson Olinray Hammond; a brother-in-law, Franklin “Bubbie” Powell; and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Welch. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Floyd Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Chad Culick officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Dale Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery. A visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. on Friday, February 11, 2022, at Floyd Funeral Home and at other times at the residence. Pallbearers will be Gerald McElveen, Donald Sims, Jr., Brad Wilkes, Patrick Welch, Joel Welch, Lance Green, Donnie McGee, Fred Morris, Stein Lee, Tony Miles, Pat Coker, and Jimmy Hickman. The family request that memorials be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America, the American Cancer Society or to the Turbeville Children’s Home. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Kristen Feagin, Teresa Dunlap and the staff of McLeod Hospice for their tender love and care for RW and the family.
