LYNCHBURG - It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Jean Young Phillips, who passed away on April 20, 2023 at 63, surrounded by family. She fought cancer with unwavering strength for over seven years and finally found peace in the embrace of the Lord. Throughout her life, Jean was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew her, and her love and kindness touched the lives of everyone she encountered. Her selfless nature and generous spirit were infectious, and her unwavering faith in God inspired all. Jean was known by many as a devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend. She dedicated her life to her family, and her legacy will live on through her children and grandchildren. Her unwavering love and devotion to her family will always be cherished and remembered. In addition to being a loving mother and grandmother, Jean was a dedicated member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and owner/operator of About Face Hair Salon in Turbeville. Her passion for helping others was evident in everything she did, and her impact on others will not be forgotten. Although our hearts are heavy with the loss, we take comfort in knowing that she is now healed and resting peacefully in the arms of the Lord. We will always cherish the memories we have of her, and she will forever remain in our hearts. Jean was survived by her husband, Eddie Phillips; children Sarah DenHartog (Rob) and Edward Phillips (Caitlin); grandchildren Connor, Margaret, and Eleanor. She is also survived by her father, David Young; sisters Marie Tolson (Watson), Melodie Young, and Cindy Green (Johnny); and special nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her mother, Melva Young. You are invited to join the family to celebrate Jean’s life on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Lynchburg, SC. Visitation will be held from 3:00-4:00pm in the Family Life Center, and the funeral service will be held at 4:00pm in the Sanctuary. The Promise Keepers group from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to City of Refuge in Atlanta, GA.
