Gladys Thelma Matthews Olanta Gladys Thelma Matthews age 68 died March 15, 2012 in a Florence hospital after an illness. Funeral services will be held at 4 PM Sunday March 18, 2012 at Floyd Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Thomas Cemetery, directed by Floyd Funeral Home. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral service. Born in Florence County, she was a daughter of the late Marshal Gaymon and Pauline McElveen Gaymon. Mrs. Matthews was a Licensed Practical Nurse and Pharmacy Technician having worked over 10 years at Florence General Hospital, Commander Nursing Home and Folk Nursing Home. Mrs. Matthews was a person who cared deeply for her family and loved elderly people. Until her illness she made sure her parents and family were taken care of. She didn't didn't belive in saying "I love you", her motto was to show it. She also loved tending to her lawn and made sure it was well manicured. Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica M. McLaughlin. Three brothers, Marshall Gaymon, Jr., Charles Gaymon and Paul Gaymon. Surviving are a daughter, Deborah Matthews Shady (Jerry) of Olanta. Three sisters, Judy (Elbert) Joye of Hemmingway, Dot Parnell of Sumter, and Velma (Jerry) Faile of Florence. A brother, Earnest Gaymon of Ridgeland, S.C. Three grandchildren, Lance (Ray) McLaughlin of Olanta, Brandon (Micheala) McLaughlin of Florence, and Shane Collins of Olanta. One great grandchild, Brookelyn McLaughlin of Florence. The family of Mrs. Matthews would like to thank the staff of McLeod, both Doctors and Nurses for their care of our loved one and our family.
