Thomas E. Liles Iii

Thomas E. Liles, III Thomas E. Liles age 75 of Florence, died January 30, 2019, in McLeod Hospital after an illness. A graveside service will be held at 2 o'clock PM Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Florence. The family will receive friends at their home immediately following the service. Mr. Liles was born in Bennettsville, SC, son of the late Rev. Thomas Ernest Liles, Jr. and Virginia Bracey Liles. He was a graduate of Erskine College where he played basketball and baseball, and received his Master's Degree in Education from The University of South Carolina. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church for over 40 years. He was a teacher and coach at Chesterfield Schools, McClenaghan High School, and South Florence High School. He served as Assistant Director of Adult Education in Florence District 1, and as Director of Adult Education in Florence Districts 2 - 5. He retired in 2000 after teaching for over 35 years. Surviving are his wife, Mary Phillips Liles of Florence; three daughters, Heather and Jason McAuley of Bloomington, IN., Melissa Liles and Henk van Assen of Brooklyn, NY., Patricia and Kelly Gibbs of Richmond, VA.; one sister, Faith L. Furtick of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren, Lucy Liles Gibbs and Molly Rowen Gibbs both of Richmond, VA., Wynne Keels McAuley of Bloomington, IN.
