V. Carlton Langston

V. Carlton Langston Timmonsville V. Carlton "Speedy" Langston age 88, husband of Ann Clifford Langston, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017 after an illness. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Monday, February 6, 2017 at Bethany Free Will Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta. Visitation will be held 5 - 7 PM Sunday, February 5, 2017 at the funeral home. Born in Florence County he was a son of the late Presley Langston and Lois Cusaac Langston, he graduated from Elim High School in Effingham, S. C. and from Elon College with a degree in science and physical education. He loved baseball and went through college on a baseball scholarship. He played semi-pro baseball for several years, taught school and coached for seven years and then went to work with South Carolina Department of Corrections. He worked with the Juvenile Delinquent Department and then moved to the Youthful Offender Department as a Supervisor and stayed until he retired with 32 years with the State. He was a faithful member of Bethany Free Will Baptist Church, Creek Road in Timmonsville, S.C., in the past he served as a Teacher, Deacon, Choir Director, Lay Minister, and later as a Trustee. He enjoyed Gospel Music and sang in quartets most of his life. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lucy Hancock, a brother, Randal Langston, and a dear granddaughter, Patti Langston. He is survived by his wife of the home, two sons, Chris (Jewell) Langston of Timmonsville, Glenn (Karen) Langston of Olanta, one daughter, Cynthia (Tim) Driggers of Scranton, a nephew Benoit Hancock of Timmonsville, one sister, Joanne Carpenter of Sea Island, Ga., six grandchildren, Whittney (Ian) Gray, Dustin (Whitney) Langston, Heather (Graham) Johnson, Curtis (Jennifer) Driggers, Adam Driggers, and Tyler Langston, and seven great-grandchildren.
