Van Green, Sr. Turbeville - Van Green, Sr age 90 died August 16, 2017 at his home after an illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock PM Saturday August 19, 2017 at East Clarendon Gymnasium in Turbeville with burial in Horse Branch F.W.B. Church Cemetery directed by Floyd Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 PM Friday at Horse Branch F.W.B. Church. Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Gleaton Euston Green and Sally Leviner Robinson Green. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army in WWII, the former owner and operator of Green's Gulf Service in Turbeville, Chief of the Turbeville District of the Clarendon County Fire Department where he retired in 1999, he was Clarendon County Firefighter of the Year in 1991, he was inducted into the Clarendon County Fire Department Hall of Fame in 2001, was an honorary member of East Clarendon Booster Club 2013 - 2014, a member of Horse Branch F.W.B. Church, he received a proclamation from the South Carolina House of Representatives in 2000, naming Turbeville Fire Station, The Coy E.(Van) Green, Sr. Fire Station, a member of Turbeville American Legion and The Turbeville Ruritans. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emily McElveen Green, a brother, Euston Leslie Green, sisters, Nell Green Baker and Theo Green Coker, a son-in-law, Murray Floyd. Surviving are daughters; Sharon Green Floyd, Connie Green (Fred) Huth , Tammy (David) Sullivan, and Cheryl Green Barwick all of Turbeville, Terri Green (Ronny) Tabor of Manning, a son; Coy Evander "Van" (Barbara) Green, Jr., of Turbeville, two sisters; Shirley Green (Sam Jr.) Knight of Lake City, Sara Green Poss of Gainesville, Fla., 16 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice of Sumter, especially Meredith Myers, Michelle Baker, Tonya Smith, and Beebe Coker for their exceptional loving Care, we would also like to thank Emmie Shearer, not only his granddaughter, but also his caretaker.
